All the recent modern operating systems offer a new feature known as RAM expansion. As the name suggests, it simply works by taking some parts of the onboard storage (ROM) and converting them into virtual RAM.

The feature is useful for those with low configuration handsets as their device’s memory can keep up with the storage demands. Moreover, it boosts the multi-tasking abilities and keeps apps cached for a quick launch. Many smartphone brands have taken up this trait including Samsung, which like to call it RAM Plus.
As mentioned, almost all operating systems including Android already have this feature. But Samsung is releasing it for some of its Galaxy devices to increase the device’s RAM for free. Though the set limit is up to 7GB which can be used as virtual memory by users.
This implies, if a smartphone has 8GB RAM, the user can allocate up to 15GB using this feature. While the average of 4GB device can get 11GB RAM. The system provides 2GB of internal storage that serves as RAM effectively.
Here is the list of devices that are receiving the RAM Plus feature by Samsung:
- Galaxy A52s
- Galaxy A52 5G
- Galaxy Z Fold 3
- Galaxy S21
- Galaxy S21+
- Galaxy S21 Ultra
As the company has just started releasing the feature via new software updates. We expect more smartphones to add to the list.
